College of Chemistry

  College of Chemistry at Taiyuan University of Technology was founded in 1998 as the Department of Basic Chemistry, which was merged with School of Materials Engineering, Shanxi College of Mining and Technology, and Taiyuan University of Polytechnic. In 1999, it was renamed as Department of Applied Chemistry, and in 2018, it was developed into Department of Chemistry. In 2022, the College of Chemistry was established under the university solid goal of science education. The college is composed of five teaching institutions: Department of Inorganic Chemistry, Department of Physical Chemistry, Department of Applied Chemistry, Department of Basic Chemistry and Experimental Center of Basic Chemistry.

 There are 46 full-time faculty members, including 12 professors and 13 associate professors. There are 40 people with doctorate degree. There are 5 doctoral supervisor and 27 master supervisor. There are one gainer of national outstanding youth fund, ten staffs with all kinds of provincial talents, one teacher of teaching masters in Shanxi Province, and three teams of Shanxi Province science and technology innovation.

 The college is equipped with two undergraduate majors of applied chemistry and chemistry. The applied chemistry major is a national first-class undergraduate majors. Over the past three years, some teachers presided and participate in more than 10 provincial teaching reform projects. One gained the grand prize and one gained the first prize of teaching achievement prize of Shanxi Province. One course gained the state-level first-class undergraduate course and three obtained high-quality shared course of universities in Shanxi Province.

 There is chemistry master's programs of first-level discipline in the college. Chemistry discipline has entered the top 1% of ESI in the world since 2016, and the ranking is constantly rising. Discipline has multiple national and provincial scientific research and teaching support platform. The laboratory area is more than 5000 square meters. Experimental instruments and equipment worth nearly one hundred million yuan. Nearly three years, chemistry subject undertake more than 50 national and provincial projects, more than 200 high level of SCI papers were published and more than 60 invention patents were authorized. One project was awarded the first prize for scientific and technological achievements of Shanxi Province.

 At present, the college has 120 undergraduates and 96 postgraduates. The college takes moral education as the fundamental task, sticks to the mission of educating people for the Party and for the country, and adheres to the student-centered concept to cultivate innovative research-oriented talents and composite applied talents with solid theoretical foundation. As the goal, it has built an innovative education platform and scientific research system, which is oriented by the integration of basic research-applied research. According to the discipline direction and students' wishes, the classification training is carried out in the senior undergraduate students. Through the form of undergraduate tutorial system, such as undergraduate innovation and entrepreneurship plan training project, the teaching of scientific research feedback is strengthened, the scientific research training of students is strengthened, and the scientific literacy of students is cultivated. In recent years, the employment prospects of graduates are good, the employment field is wide, the employment quality and employment satisfaction of students are high. The average enrollment rate is nearly 50%, and the graduates who enter the domestic top 500 enterprises account for about 40%. The employers have high recognition of graduates and good social evaluation.
